Sat 6/22: Fanari 2013 is in the books

Sorry for the delay – we had difficulty with wifi…

Every year Fanari seems to fly by, and this year was no different. The campers arrive on Sunday afternoon and the next thing you know, it’s Saturday morning and our campers are heading home. Fanari 2013 is complete and the buses are on their way home.

We were blessed with another wonderful year of Fanari and we’re so thankful for such an amazing experience. Campers, we hope you made new friends, had fun, and most importantly, learned more about your faith. We pray that you carry your Fanari agape with you throughout your lives, and that you cherish the friendships and memories you’ve made.

Counselors, staff, and clergy thank you for all of your hard work this week. Fanari couldn’t happen without you! Your dedication to the youth of our Metropolis is so important to our ministry and we’re so grateful for the time you’ve given to our Fanari campers.

Thanks everyone for a great week! We’ll see you next year for Fanari 2014!!!

Tuesday 6/18: Fanari Games

Today was a beautiful day! Even though it was a little cool the sun was shining and we had enjoyed every minute of it.

After morning chapel and breakfast we went to our morning sessions. In Diakonia we’ve been busy making icons painting various layers on blocks of wood. The campers are working hard and we can’t wait to see the finished products. We had some great discussions in OL and prepared for the sacrament of Confession tomorrow.

The sun was out  during free time and the campers enjoyed some time down by the lake, including some soccer tournaments led by some of our wonderful counselors. Campers also learned how to chant with Alex and some participated in arts in crafts with our Diakonia staff.

The entire camp had a GREAT time cheering each other on during our annual Fanari Games! Each grade dressed in specific colors and got into the spirit of the games with lots of cheers and encouragement. We loved seeing our counselors get into the spirit, too! Big congratulations to the 8th grade and the 11th grade for winning in their respective divisions!

Time for chapel and then bed. Another big day tomorrow, including confession and a Fanari classic, the Song Game!

Sweet dreams, campers! Thank you for another day of so much wonderful Christian Agape!

Sunday 6/16: Orientation

Fanari 2013 is in full swing!

All of our campers and counselors arrived safely this afternoon, excited and ready to go. Tonight we had our first meal together and had a brief overview of Diakonia, Athletics, Bible Study, Orthodox Life, and Theater. We ended the night with a beautiful first evening chapel service and a sermon from Fr. Peter. After a few songs, it was back to our cabins to get settled and get to know the others in our grades.

Everyone is in for the night and we’re excited for a full day of making Fanari memories tomorrow!

So long sweet summer…

Well, Fanari 2012 is done! Campers are on the buses and on their way home! We were blessed with another wonderful year of Fanari and we’re so thankful for such an amazing experience.

Campers, we hope you made new friends, learned about yourselves and most importantly, learned about your faith. We pray that you carry your Fanari memories with you throughout your lives.

Counselors, staff, and clergy thank you for all of your hard work this week. Fanari couldn’t happen without you!

Thanks everyone for a great week! We’ll see you next year for Fanari 2013!!!

Friday 6/22: Skit Night

It’s our last night at Fanari Camp and there’s no better way to end our week than with the skits that our campers worked on all week. Our Theater Staff did a great job coordinating the evening and all of the campers had fun with their songs and skits! The 11th graders closed their Fanari experience with the song “You’ll Be In My Heart” and lots of hugs.

Big congratulations to the campers and counselors of the 7th grade for being the 2012 Fanari Camp Spirit Winners; they truly embraced the Fanari Spirit all week long!

One last evening chapel, a slideshow of the week, and a few songs closed out our day. It’s almost time to head home.

Sleep well campers!

Thursday 6/21: Dance & Bonfire

Well, it’s the end of the day and the campers are in for the night. We had a fantastic time at the dance and listening to Mr. D tell stories at the bonfire. The campers dressed in some great Olympic-themed outfits for the dance- everything from swimmers to soccer players to torchbearers!

The campers also had the chance to hear Mr. D share stories around the bonfire and make s’mores. As always, Mr. D kept the campers engaged and everyone had a great time.

Today our Pick Up Your Cross and Follow Me campers arrived and will spend the entire day with us tomorrow. We can’t wait to share the Fanari agape with them!

It’s been a wonderful day and we’re so thankful for the experiences we’ve had at Fanari. We only have one more full day of camp; this week has flown by! Sweet dreams campers, we’ll see you in the morning.

Our last day at Fanari…

Today was our last full day of Fanari 2011…and we saved the best weather for last. The sun came out a little and campers were able to enjoy their entire day outside! We had our regular activities and prepared for our last evening activity, Skit Night.

Today we had some visitors at camp! 3 members of the Metropolis’s Pick Up Your Cross and Follow Me program came to participate in Fanari for the day. We were so blessed to have them as part of our Fanari community and loved having them here!

Our Theater Staff did a great job coordinating the evening and all of the campers had fun with their songs and skits! The 11th graders closed their Fanari experience with the song “My Wish” and lots of hugs.

Big congratulations to the campers and counselors of the 8th grade for being the Spirit Winners; they truly embraced the Fanari Spirit all week long!

One last evening chapel, a slideshow of the week, and a few songs closed out our day. Time for some nani and then it’s time to head home.

Sleep well campers!
