Saturday 6/21: Time to say goodbye

Fanari always seems to fly by! The campers arrive on Sunday afternoon and the next thing you know, it’s Saturday morning and it’s time to head home. After many photos, e-mail/phone number exchanges, hugs and some tears, Fanari 2014 is complete and the buses are on their way home.

We were blessed with another wonderful year of Fanari and we’re so thankful for such an amazing experience. Campers, we hope you made new friends, had fun, and most importantly, learned more about your faith. We pray that you carry your Fanari agape with you throughout your lives, and that you cherish the friendships and memories you’ve made.

Counselors, staff, and clergy thank you for all of your hard work this week. Fanari couldn’t happen without you! Your dedication to the youth of our Metropolis is so important to our ministry and we’re so grateful for the time you’ve given to our Fanari campers.

Thanks everyone for a great week! We’ll see you next year for Fanari 2015!

Friday 6/20: Our last day & Skit Night

Fanari 2014 is just about over, and we’re so sad that this was our last full day of camp. It’s been another wonderful day of friendships and memory making, and we’re so thankful to have had this week to meet new people.

Our Pick Up Your Cross and Follow Me campers have had a wonderful time hanging out with the 10th and 11th grades. We’re so glad they joined us for another year of Fanari!

It’s our last night at Fanari Camp and there’s no better way to end our time together than with the skits that our campers worked on all week. Our Theater Staff did a great job coordinating the evening and all of the campers had fun with their songs and skits! The 11th graders closed their Fanari experience with the song “Time of Your Life” and lots of hugs.

Huge congratulations to the campers and counselors of the 11th grade for being the 2014 Fanari Camp Spirit Winners; they truly embraced the Fanari Spirit all week long!

One last evening chapel, a slideshow of the week, and a few songs closed out our day. Nani nani campers, time to head home tomorrow.

Tuesday 6/17: Sunshine and Greek Night

Today was a beautiful day! The rain came overnight, and the sun was out again this morning with a nice breeze.

After morning chapel and breakfast we went to our morning sessions. In Diakonia we’ve been busy making wood crosses with beads. The campers are working hard and we can’t wait to see the finished products. We had some great discussions in OL and prepared for the sacrament of Confession tomorrow.

The sun was out  during free time and the campers enjoyed some time down by the lake, including multiple soccer games some of our wonderful counselors and priests. Campers also learned how to chant with Alex and had a chance to learn some Greek dancing too.

After our afternoon rotations we had dinner and prepared for our evening activity- Greek Night! Big shout-out to Louis for DJ-ing. The dance floor was packed all night! Campers also had the option to tell/listen to stories around the campfire with Mr. D and Louie or watch Frozen in the air conditioned chapel. The campers and counselors definitely had a great night!

We ended the day with chapel, and now we’re off to Devotionals with our counselors and priests, followed by some much-needed sleep. We’re having a blast, making friends, and learning so much about our faith. We love Fanari!

Monday 6/16: Daily Activities & Fanari Games

What a great first full day of Fanari! The weather was wonderful and the campers had a blast. Our theme this year is Christian Friendship, and we’ve challenged the campers to meet someone new every day. Needless to say they’re having a great time making new friends!

We started our day with morning chapel, a sermon from Fr. John, and the Blessing of the Waters. After breakfast and our cabin clean-up time we started our activity rotations. Campers played basketball, soccer, frisbee, and kickball in Athletics and got to work on their skits in Theater. They learned about trust in Bible Study and had some great discussions in Orthodox Life. Our Diakonia staff worked with the campers as they started their projects for the week.

Free time was so much fun- campers played lots of soccer, enjoyed some time in the lake, and hung out with their friends down by the water. We were so lucky to have such wonderful weather to enjoy some time together.

Tonight we had our annual Fanari Games! The entire camp had a GREAT time cheering each other on, playing relay games, and they all dressed in grade-specific colors to really get into the spirit. The energy was contagious and the campers really got into the spirit of the games with lots of cheers and encouragement. Big congratulations to the 8th grade and the 11th grade for winning in their respective divisions! The 6th and 7th grades each won Spirit Sticks for the day- keep up the great work guys!

Evening chapel, a sermon from Fr. Christodoulos, and a rousing rendition of Deep with Fr. George rounded out our day. Campers are in their cabins now and will surely sleep well tonight!

Goodnight campers, thank you for a wonderful day of Fanari!
