Camp Week 2013

In case you missed it, the Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministries of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of American put together a celebration of our camping ministries at the end of August. They collected reflections and photos from camps around the country, and one of our counselors, Sara Pessimisis was able to share her thoughts on her Fanari Camp experience. You can check it out on The Ladder (the official blog of Youth & Young Adult Ministries)

You can also see a few Fanari photos in the Camp Week 2013 slide show. (0:31, 1:21, 2:22, 3:06, and 3:58)

Fanari 2013 photos!

The first batch of Fanari 2013 photos are now on Facebook! These are just the start, as we took over 3,000 photos from our 7 days at camp!

We’re working on the slide show on YouTube, we need to adjust the music so hopefully we’ll have it up and running soon.

Sat 6/22: Fanari 2013 is in the books

Sorry for the delay – we had difficulty with wifi…

Every year Fanari seems to fly by, and this year was no different. The campers arrive on Sunday afternoon and the next thing you know, it’s Saturday morning and our campers are heading home. Fanari 2013 is complete and the buses are on their way home.

We were blessed with another wonderful year of Fanari and we’re so thankful for such an amazing experience. Campers, we hope you made new friends, had fun, and most importantly, learned more about your faith. We pray that you carry your Fanari agape with you throughout your lives, and that you cherish the friendships and memories you’ve made.

Counselors, staff, and clergy thank you for all of your hard work this week. Fanari couldn’t happen without you! Your dedication to the youth of our Metropolis is so important to our ministry and we’re so grateful for the time you’ve given to our Fanari campers.

Thanks everyone for a great week! We’ll see you next year for Fanari 2014!!!

Friday 6/21: Skit Night

Fanari 2013 is quickly coming to an end, and we’re so sad that this was our last full day of camp. It’s been another wonderful day of friendships and memory making! We even got lucky with the rain clearing up just in time for free time.

Our Pick Up Your Cross and Follow Me campers have had a wonderful time hanging out with the 9th, 10th and 11th grades. We’re so glad they joined us for another year of Fanari!

It’s our last night at Fanari Camp and there’s no better way to end our week than with the skits that our campers worked on all week. Our Theater Staff did a great job coordinating the evening and all of the campers had fun with their songs and skits! The 11th graders closed their Fanari experience with the song “Home” and lots of hugs.

Huge congratulations to the campers and counselors of the 6th grade for being the 2013 Fanari Camp Spirit Winners; they truly embraced the Fanari Spirit all week long!

One last evening chapel, a slideshow of the week, and a few songs closed out our day. Nani nani campers, time to head home tomorrow.

Thursday 6/20: Dance & Bonfire

Well, it’s the end of a special day and the campers are in for the night. We had a fantastic time at the dance and listening to Mr. D tell stories at the bonfire. The campers dressed in some great western-themed outfits for the dance- cowboys, cowgirls, and even a horse! The campers also had the chance to hear Mr. D share stories around the bonfire and make s’mores. As always, Mr. D kept the campers engaged and everyone had a great time.

Today our Pick Up Your Cross and Follow Me campers arrived and will spend the entire day with us tomorrow. We can’t wait to share another year of Fanari agape with them!

Tonight the 7th and 11th grades won the spirit sticks and we closed evening chapel with “Gloria,” “Shine On” and an all-time Fanari classic, “Let There Be Peace On Earth”!

It’s been a truly beautiful day and we’ve been blessed with such wonderful experiences at Fanari. We only have one more full day of camp, and as always, this week has flown by!

Thursday 6/20: Picnic & Water Game Fun

What a great day so far! After breakfast we went down to the waterfront to enjoy the afternoon of free-time, food, and the infamous Fanari Water Games! We had the most beautiful weather, sunny and not too hot. The campers played volleyball, Ga Ga Ball and hung out by the water. His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos visited us today, and spent the afternoon with the campers.

After lunch, we all went down to the waterfront for the 3rd Annual Fanari Camp Water Games. We had quite a few capsized boats and the final round had the 11th grade just edging out the 6th grade for the win.

We’re just finishing dinner and then we’re off to get ready for the dance. Since we’re celebrating western-style, we can’t wait to see what our creative campers come up with for the theme!
