Thursday 6/30: Picnic Day

Another day filled with all of God’s blessings.  The day’s not over yet, but so far, it’s been packed with so many fun activities! Some of the Delphian girl campers woke up to a prank in the cafeteria, as their counselors set up the table with the tie dye shirts they made and a personalized balloon face and name tag to accompany it! Surprise!!!!

After morning chapel and breakfast, we started off our day with 3 rotations:  The campers had so much fun with our Scavenger Hunt around the grounds of the retreat center! Thank you to Sara, Pres. Anna & Fr. Kosmas for guiding our campers through the clues. Our teams enjoyed taking selfies, figuring out the clues and using Bible verses to help them. Next, Fr. George & Fr. Tilemahos led a session on the the vestments that a priest wears and the meaning behind each piece. And then we rotated and Presvytera Georgia hosted a Jeopardy game to test our knowledge of our faith. It was a fun way to learn more and earn some spirit coins!

Let the picnic begin!!! Dn. Chris, Fr. Chrysanthos, Arun, Nick and Doc Tom were busy cooking our souvlakia and warming up some pita bread on the grill. We were overjoyed to have a visit from His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos, as he blessed the campers, staff and our delicious food. Campers also had fun playing soccer, volleyball, basketball, and Octoball. Later in the afternoon, anyone wanting to go to the farm to visit the animals could take a ride with Farmer Joe on Gnarly Nick’s wagon ride!!! The fun never ends at Fanari Camp!

The afternoon ended with an epic Campers vs. Counselors softball game! Our young campers put up a tremendous fight, but the counselors were victorious! The outcome didn’t matter, because fun was had by all and everyone showed terrific sportsmanship! What great role models our counselors are for the young lives they are responsible for this week.

After our evening service, His Eminence greeted our campers and staff and gave each one a prayer book and “komboskini” or prayer rope. He told us how happy he was to see us all gathered together at Fanari Camp on the beautiful grounds of the St. Iakovos Retreat Center and to spread the word about their experience here and the beautiful home we share together for one week.

Glory be to God for watching over us all day! Pictures will be posted tonight! We can’t wait to see which super heroes show up at the Fanari Dance! Stay tuned…
