It’s already Wednesday! Our week is halfway over and we’re soaking up every single moment and experience here, at Fanari Camp.
Today’s Flex was Arts & Crafts, led by Presvytera Georgia Alikakos, where our campers made their own books with prayers for various occasions. Each had a beautiful icon to go along with each prayer. We pray that they will be used often, once our campers have returned home, to expand the frequency of their prayer life, as they grow closer to Christ.
During our Orthodox Life session, we received the sacrament of confession, to prepare us for receiving Holy Communion on Saturday. We thank our visiting clergy, Fr. Apostolos Georgiafentis and Fr. Theologos Pandelis, for coming up to help out their brother priests, Fr. Alikakos, Fr. Kerkeres, Fr. Lamberis, Fr. Jonas and Fr. Ketchum.
Tonight’s evening activity was “A Night with the Saints”. First, we had a session with Presvytera Anna Kallis that showed scenarios of everyday people who lived like us, sinners, and then gave a description of them when they repented and became saints. Truly an eye opening activity to show us that through repentance, prayer and the sacraments, we too can be called to be saints. Then we were blessed to venerate the relics of St. Nectarios and St. Porphyrios, a splinter of the Holy Cross, and a piece of the vestments of St. John Maximovitch from Fr. Nick Jonas and Fr. Loukas Gikas. It truly was a blessing to be surrounded by such holiness!
We ended our night with a sing-along in the Main Lodge, as we sang our favorite Fanari songs with Fr. George Lamberis leading us on guitar. “Pharaoh, Pharaoh”, “Deep”, and “I Will Magnify the Lord” just to name a few. Our staff, representing Tennessee, New York, California and India, entertained us with a hilarious round of “Boom Chicka Boom” in their different accents!!! Fr. George also led another energetic “BOOMBA, HEY!” and the entire camp quietly made rain with their hands . Our spirit sticks tonight went to the Olympians and Spartans. Great job campers and counselors for letting your spirit shine through in all you do each day!
Campers are quiet in their cabins, as we all reflect on another blessed day. Cherishing the moments we’ve had and looking forward to creating more memories before the week ends, we’re signing off from Fanari headquarters for the night. Goodnight!
