Just like the three weeks before, what started out as a long journey ahead of us, seemed to be on fast forward by the end of the week. We’ve made new friends and strengthened old friendships with the bond of our Orthodox faith and the love of Christ and His church. All the campers have returned home and we fondly look back on another uplifting week of Fanari Camp and all the memories we created, in our short but meaningful week together.
We concluded our Session 4 of Fanari Camp ,“Come Let Us Worship”, by participating in the Divine Liturgy before we departed today. Fr. George Pappas and Deacon Chris Avramopoulos celebrated together and chanted a memorial for our beloved Fr. Bill Chiganos and all those Fanari campers and counselors who have fallen asleep in the Lord. May their memories be eternal!
Deacon Chris reflected on the gospel reading today:“The Lord said, you are the light of the world. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
He encouraged us all to do just as the gospel says, and be the light that shines to all people; to your friends and to your family, just as the “Fanari” shines. Be that Fanari! Be that beacon of light and spread all you’ve learned and all you feel from your week of camp, to everyone you meet. We ended our service with the whole camp singing the hymn, “Lord of the Powers”, while standing in a circle, hand in hand, together. A beautiful ending to a memorable and blessed week!
We hope that this week brought our campers closer to Christ and that they felt a deeper connection to their faith. For those who experience a week of Fanari Camp, there is an unexplainable bond that ties us all together. We pray that you all carry your Fanari agape with you throughout your lives!
A heartfelt thank you to all our amazing staff, who gave of their time and talents to our Fanari campers and our program! We appreciate all the work, dedication and love that you gave so freely, in our week together.
Farewell from Fanari Camp 2015! We look forward to seeing you in 2016…God bless and be with your always. xoxo
