After our last full day of Fanari Camp Session 4, we’ve literally weathered the storms together and now get ready to say goodbye to what we’ve called “home” for a beautiful week together. Campers received an icon of St. Iakovos to commemorate our first year at the St. Iakovos Retreat Center.
The storms may have cut our outdoor free-time activities short, but we still enjoyed fellowship together in the Main Lodge and picked up our schedule where we left off, after they passed.
We ended our last night of Fanari Camp with “Skit Night”. Connie Kass and Evi Hatzopoulos did an excellent job all week long, coordinating the evening’s skits in Theater. The campers had fun entertaining us tonight and watching each other’s performances. It was a hilarious night with many creative and original skits! Great job, everyone!
Huge congratulations to the Olympians, the Session 4 Fanari Camp Spirit Winners! They truly embraced the Fanari Spirit all week-long with amazing counselors to lead them! Our 11th grade campers, Olivia, Danielle, Athena, Andreas and Andrew were all given a candle that was on the altar table all week, as a memento from their last year at Fanari Camp. We hope they will keep the light of Christ within them always, and shine so bright for all to see!
Finishing up our last Closing Day, we showed a slideshow of all the memories we made during our week together. Nick Kirkeles spoke about the history of Fanari Camp and carrying on the legacy that our beloved departed Director, Fr. Bill Chiganos, started over 40 years ago. He also acknowledged all of us who served as staff members all four weeks of camp this summer. We are blessed to have such loving staff, dedicating their time and talents to Fanari and the youth of our Metropolis! Deacon Chris spoke on what a memorable week we had together and to keep the “Fanari”, the beacon of light inside of us, long after camp has ended. We ended the night singing the liturgical hymn “Lord of the Powers” as we were dismissed to go to our final devotionals in our cabins.
We are so thankful for all the wonderful memories we’ve made this week! Our hopes are that the campers take away something from their experiences here and share them with those at home. All is quiet in camp tonight. Goodnight from Fanari Camp headquarters…we’ll see you tomorrow for Divine Liturgy and our final goodbyes.
