Saturday 6/11: Last Day and Skit Night

After our last full day of Fanari Camp, Session 3 is just about over, and it’s been a wonderful week of memories in our new home. We hope our campers have learned more about their faith, growing together in the love of Christ.

Today we were blessed by a visit from  His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos. He spent the day greeting the campers and as a gift, gave each of them an icon of St. Iakovos  to commemorate our first year at the St. Iakovos Retreat Center.

On our last night at Fanari Camp, we traditionally end it with “Skit Night”. Chrysanthe Agos did a fantastic  job all week long, coordinating the evening’s skits in Theater. The campers had fun entertaining us and watching each other’s performances. What a fun night with much laughter!

Huge congratulations to the campers of the Olympians, the Session 3 Fanari Camp Spirit Winners! They truly embraced the Fanari Spirit all week-long with amazing counselors to lead them! Our one 11th grade camper, Sophia Papageorge, was recognized and given a candle that was on the altar table all week, as a memento from her last year at Fanari Camp.

We ended our last Closing Day with a reflection from Dr. Ary Chrystofidis who spoke about St. Paisios, whom he had met, and was recently a canonized saint.  We celebrate his feast day on the 12th of July.  He spoke of how the saint always showed great humility and that we should emulate that by following his example by being humble people.

After all the pictures that were taken this week, we watched our slideshow of the great memories we made. Nick Kirkeles spoke about the history of Fanari Camp and carrying on the legacy our beloved departed Director, Fr. Bill Chiganos, started over 40 years ago. Deacon Chris spoke on what a memorable week we had together and to keep the “Fanari”, the beacon of light inside of us, long after camp has ended. We ended the night singing the liturgical hymn “Lord of the Powers” as we were dismissed to go to our final devotionals in our cabins.

As we look back on all we’ve experienced and gained, we are so thankful for the blessings this week has brought us all! Goodnight from Fanari Camp…we’ll see you tomorrow for Divine Liturgy and our final goodbyes.
