Thursday 6/18: Prosforo and Picnic day

Another day of beautiful, sunny weather at Fanari! We started off our morning with a session on Prosforo baking. Deacon Chris, Fr. Jim, Fr. Achillies, Fr. Michael and Michael Kallis all took turns explaining the significance of the seal, ingredients, the service of preparation and offering names for commemoration. We will use this bread as our andithoron for our Sunday Liturgy. What a beautiful gesture of love for our campers to offer.

Our other session was the Proskinitaria walk in the woods with Fr. George and Mr. D. The campers learned about the saints at all the different Proskinitaria that were so generously donated by patrons of the Retreat Center, and how to offer their prayers along the beautiful path of icons.

Then it was picnic time!!! His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos visited us today and blessed the campers and all our delicious food so the picnic could begin! Campers had fun swimming, playing soccer, basketball and Farmer Joe even started up the tractor and gave everyone rides to the barn to visit with the animals. The Camp Store was mobile today and all the campers cooled off with some refreshing gatorade and sweet snacks.

We’re just finishing the afternoon and will head to chapel and dinner, followed by the dance. We can’t wait to see everyone’s Hawaiian fashion for the Luau! Stay tuned!
