What a great first full day of Fanari! The rain departed and the sun finally came out, so the campers were able to enjoy the warmer weather outside. We began our morning with chapel, lead by Fr. Jim Greanias, and had an Agiasmos service to bless the campers. Following the blessing, campers went outside for “Alone with God”–a time to sit and be alone with their thoughts in silence and pray to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It was a beautiful way to begin our day and fill ourselves with peace and the love of Christ.
After a delicious breakfast, we headed to our activities to begin our day. Campers learned all about the origin and different styles of dance in “Greek Culture” with Katerina Rallis and had a blast! They also got started on their skits in Theater and enjoyed and had some great discussions in Orthodox Life and Bible Study, as well.
The sun was shining bright during free-time and today was our swim test day. Any camper who wants to swim in our pool during the week, was tested by the lifeguard. Campers also had fun having a “garage band” session with the drum set and guitar, while others played soccer and basketball with their counselors or made friendship bracelets together. We were so lucky to have such wonderful weather to enjoy some time together.
Tonight we had our annual Fanari Games! The entire camp came running in with their cabins, chanting and cheering each other on, while playing relay races. The energy was contagious and the campers really got into the spirit of the games! Big congratulations to the Delphians, who won the Fanari Games Trophy and to the Athenians and Olympians for winning Spirit Sticks for the day- keep up the great job and truly showing you have the Holy Spirit within!
At Closing Day, our Program Director, Alex Magdalinos, reflected on Prayer and how we should focus on our opportunities this week to pray during devotionals, meals, Alone with God, etc. Fr. George rounded out our day with an exciting and loud rendition of “I Will Magnify the Lord” and “Deep” that got all the campers and staff clapping and singing along! Campers are in their cabins now and will surely sleep well tonight!
Goodnight campers, thank you for a wonderful day of Fanari!
